2016 BORSOS AWARD FOR BEST CANADIAN FEATURE

2016 BORSOS AWARD FOR BEST CANADIAN FEATURE

If you’re headed to the 2016 Whistler Film Festival – Look out for the BORSOS AWARD FOR BEST CANADIAN FEATURE supported by: Telefilm Canada. $30,000 worth of prizing will be awarded and 19 films entered into this year’s competition!

For 12 consecutive years, 88 entries in the Borsos Competition for Best Canadian Feature have exuded the creative fire and artistry embodied by legendary Canadian filmmaker Philip Borsos, best known for his inspiring work on the Genie Award-winning films THE GREY FOX (82), and BETHUNE: THE MAKING OF A HERO (90). The Vancouver-based director/producer was just 41 years old when he succumbed to leukemia in 1995, devastating his family and community, and cutting short an award-winning career that had already altered the Canadian film scene.

The jury includes: Deepa Mehta, who is attending the fest with ANATOMY OF VIOLENCE. Tzi Ma, recently in Denis Villeneuve’s newly released ARRIVAL, and Canadian actress, writer, director, producer, and film professor, Ingrid Veninger.

Past jury members have included Jason Priestley, Kim Cattrall, Luc Déry, Kim McGraw, Marc-Andre Grondin, Martin Katz, Bruce Greenwood, Ivan Reitman, Atom Egoyan, Donald Sutherland, Robert Lantos and Norman Jewison.

Awards sponsored by: Directors Guild of Canada, British Columbia, Encore Vancouver & Iatse Local 669
