Carl Bessai
Carl's first feature film Johnny was a festival hit at the 1999 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received a special jury citation. Johnny went on to travel internationally before being released in theaters through Canada. Carl's second feature film Lola also premiered at the 2001 Toronto International Film Festival and went on to screenings at the Pusan International Film Festival in Korea, the Sundance Film Festival, and the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival.
Some of Carl's other films include the documentaries Out of Orbit, an experimental biography on media guru Marshall McLuhan that won an award at the San Francisco International Film Festival, and Indie Truth for the Independent Film Channel in Canada and the United States.
Emile is Carl's third feature film, which premiered at the 2003 Toronto International Film Festival.
