I Hate Toronto - A Love Story

I just received an email from Daniel Wilson who is the Writer/Director/Producer of a new Feature Film called "I Hate Toronto - A Love Story".  He has an interested way of raising funds for the film and also creating interest for it.  His email states that he's looking for additional investors for the film...but if you can't invest, then he gives you the option of pre-purchasing DVDs for their website.  Very interesting idea and I hope it works out for him.  Way to go Daniel!  In this day & age filmmakers need to be super savvy and creative not only with their films, but in how they promote them.

Son of The Sunshine is running for a Second Week at the Carlton Cinemas (20 Carlton St).  This is a film worth seeing.  Go see it in the theater and support a great up-and-coming Canadian Filmmaker.  I personally was very impressed by this film and I am sooooo surprised that it was not included in last years TIFF line-up.  I am encouraging all our Toronto area members to support this lovely film.  It's Ryan Ward's first feature and the reviews are raving!  Check them out:

Writer/Director Jean-Marc Vallee's latest film Cafe De Flore is listed as one of the most anticipated films of 2011.  I truly believe that Jean-Marc is a true artist and one of our most talented filmmakers in Canada.

I'm very excited to see this film that was inspired by the famous Parisian hang-out.  Camus, Picasso, Sartre, and Apollinaire were known to frequent the cafe and it is still very popular to this day.  Vallee's film follows a story line that takes place in the 60s, as well as a second present day story line - both stories linked by a famous song.  It wouldn't be a true Vallee film if it wasn't infused with powerful music.  I read that it's, "A mystical and supernatural odyssey on love".

One of our dearest First Weekend Club supporters Cayle Chernin passed away on Friday Feb, 18 from an advanced case of ovarian cancer.  Cayle worked on numerous projects on stage and in film & tv, but is probably most known for her role in "Goin' Down the Road" along side her good friend Jayne Eastwood.  Cayle and Jayne wrapped the sequel, called "Goin' Down the Road Again", this past Fall.

Cayle volunteered regularly for First Weekend Club and was a strong ambassador.  She really was one-in-a-million and it is with great sadness that I write this.  Here is a link to what her friends, family members and colleagues are saying about this fantastic Actress, Writer, Producer, Artist...Cayle Chernin
