The summer sees a bunch of our best films coming out DVD and download.

Barney's Version, starring Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti and the luminous Rosamund Pike, is a sleeper of a film, with plenty of cottage scenery to make you feel like you're away from the city even if you're not.

Yes! It is a great day for Canadian cinema.  Incendies, Denis Villeneuve's searing film about the Middle East, is headed to the Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film Category.

With the dramatic clout of a Greek tragedy, the film follows a brother and sister as they search for their mother's history, in an unnamed country in the Middle East.  It manages to illuminate the conflicts in that region, making it intensely personal and specific, despite the fact that the country and the conflict goes unnamed.

Ok, so it's not a Canadian film, but Jean-Marc Vallée is most definitely Canadian and I for one, want to shout out his success with his latest film The Young Victoria.  His film received three Oscar Nominations, including best Art Direction, Costume Design and Makeup.  Jean-Marc is the writer & director of one of my all time favorite Canadian films C.R.A.Z.Y.  (I think I need to rent that one again).  And if you haven't seen The Young Victoria yet, check it out on the big screen while you can.  As the nominations reflect, it is a stunning looking film, and the story intriguing.
