DVD Club: Snow Cake
Snow Cake
First Weekend Club is excited to announce the first film selection for The DVD Club: Director Marc Evans' award-winning film, Snow Cake (view trailer).
Snow Cake is a bittersweet film that clearly touched a nerve with our members who have nominated it as one of our picks for the DVD Club. In it, Alan Rickman stars as Alex, a quiet, brooding man struggling to come to terms with a fatal car crash in which he played a part. In the aftermath of this harrowing ordeal, he comes to stay in a small Canadian town with Linda (Sigourney Weaver), a highly functioning autistic woman whose life has also been touched by tragedy. As they each attempt to deal with their losses in their own distinct ways, Alan strikes up a relationship with Maggie (Carrie-Anne Moss) and finds himself experiencing long–buried depths of emotion. Also stars Emily Hampshire, Mark McKinney, and Callum Keith Rennie.
Three time Genie nominee and Gemini winner Emily Hampshire, who turns in a highly spirited performance as Sigourney Weaver's daughter, will be joining as a special guest and answering your questions. Other guests TBA.
How it works...
Just think of it as a book club, but for movies. Each month a new DVD will be selected and announced. Throughout the month we will have an ongoing moderated discussion on our forum about the film.
Step 1: You can rent or buy the DVD of the Month - the choice is yours. And enjoy it in the comfort of your home. (If you've already seen the film, you can revisit it again - highly recommended, or skip this step)
Step 2: Then simply visit our web site and head to the DVD Club forum. In the future, you can find the link to the Forum under the "Community" tab on the main navigation menu.
We recommend that you register with a unique username. If you don't, all your posts will be signed as "Guest" and other members won't be able to address you directly. Your username doesn't have to be your real name, it's your DVD Club nickname that you will be using in the discussions. And there's another good reason to register: Only registered members will be eligible for the numerous perks and benefits of The DVD Club (see below).
Step 3: Now it's your turn: share your thoughts, post reviews, questions and discuss the film with fellow film lovers. You can post every day, a few times a week, once a week, even once a month - the choice is yours. But the more you post, the more our community grows.
Step 4 (optional): Invite all your friends to join too!
Perks
