Nicholas Racz

Writer/Director

Nicholas wrote and directed the award-winning The Burial Society for Los Angeles-based Davis Entertainment Filmworks. His first feature, the film starred Academy Award nominees David Paymer (MR. SATURDAY NIGHT, QUIZ SHOW), Seymour Cassel (THE ROYAL TENNENBAUMS, RUSHMORE) and Rob Labelle, as well as Jan Rubes and Allan Rich. The film premiered at the 2002 Vancouver International Film Festival, where it received the $12,000 City-TV Award for Best Screenplay, as well as the Silvie Award for "Excellence in Canadian Independent Cinema". The film has also received the Jury Prize for "Best Feature Film" at this year¹s New Orleans Film Festival, and an "Audience TOP 10" at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, where it made its US premiere. The film is also an official selection at over 65 festivals in North America and Europe, including South By Southwest, Taos Talking Pictures Festival, Festival and England¹s Commonwealth International Film Festival and the Milan International Film Festival, where it received Jury Prizes for "Best Cinematography In A Feature Film" and "Best Production Design in a Feature Film". The film was a leader among this year¹s Leo Award nominees, with one award and eight nominations including "Best Picture", "Best Director" and "Best Screenplay". The film has been picked up for distribution in the U.S. and overseas by Regent Entertainment, and will be released theatrically in the United States in the spring of 2004.

Nicholas also wrote the award-winning documentary Ozone & The Politics of Medicine, which was selected "One Of The Best Documentaries Of 1994" by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. He also wrote and directed his own half-hour drama, The Hungarian Revelation, which has appeared at festivals around North America and was the winner of the Telefilm/Directors' Guild of Canada KickStart Short Film Competition. The following year, he co-wrote the action-adventure Dead Fire, which was released by Alliance Releasing in 1997.

A busy TV commercial director, Nicholas recently directed the award-winning commercial campaign for the PETA in the United States, which premiered on THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO, and has aired around the world. He also directed a recent campaign for Partnership For A Drug-Free America.
