About short film, JACK, and filmmakers Kryshan Randel and Marilyn Thomas:

Born and raised in BC, Kryshan Randel has been making and watching films for as long as he can remember.

Randel has directed many award winning short films, including JACK and THE BULLY SOLUTION which have screened at many of the world’s top genre festivals. JACK’s list of festivals includes Sitges, Fantasia where it won the Silver Audience Choice Award, and CFC Worldwide Short Film Festival where it sold to Shorts International.

Another successful short film GLIMPSE, produced as part of the Directors Guild of Canada / BC Film Kick Start program, premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival; subsequently won the National Screen Institute’s A & E Short Filmmakers Award; and sold to Corus Entertainment and Movieola.

Randel is also the creator and producer of the Vancouver-based fast film events The 24 Hour Film Contest and The Great Canadian Commercial Contest; and co-founder of the film program for vulnerable youth Frames Film Project.

Currently, Randel works as a director for hire and develops his own projects in between. As an IATSE 669 member, Kryshan also does freelance shooting and/or editing work for clients such as BBC America, Netflix, Legendary Pictures and Disney.

Marilyn Thomas is an award winning screenwriter/producer who has always had a love of making things up. While learning to perfect coffee-getting skills as an assistant on various tv series (CBC, ABC, Spike TV, New Line) she kept writing and partnered with indie directors eager to get their hands dirty… or bloody. Marilyn created a number of award winning short films, “Sxwexwatamsh”, “Shi-Shi-Etko”, “The Secret Life Of Cassandra Brown” and “JACK”, which is one of six films banned by iTunes.

This technically unsavvy writer then discovered a love for digital media, writing web series, “Our First Voices” and  “The Adventures of Little Jake and Many Skies” , accompanied by the game “All in a Hay’s Work”. She wrote and produced two documentaries “Ayaa: A Hero’s Story” and “Path of Pilgrims”, with an interactive website.  She wrote an interactive e-book series “Brambleberry Tales”, based on traditional Indigenous stories. The books each were selected as iTunes editors choice.

Marilyn has also developed a number of features and is prepping to launch two digital series with multi-platform story worlds.
